Our Story

The SMEAZ Savings & Credit Cooperative Society Limited (SMEAZ SACCOS) was founded in February 2014 by members of the SME Association of Zimbabwe, as a vehicle for providing savings as well as loan products, particularly for MSMEs. It was born out of the realization that traditional financial services in the market were not geared to work primarily from the point of view of MSMEs themselves, but rather from the point of view of the financial institutions.

The SMEAZ SACCOS ran until 2018, at which point we decided to mothball it due to prevailing challenges with the monetary environment at that time. It was not until May 2023 that conditions once again became conducive for the operation of a US dollar denominated SACCOS, and we resumed operations in July 2023. Since resumption, the SMEAZ SACCOS provides a range of products and services that are geared towards meeting the needs of MSMEs as well as individuals (non-members).

The SMEAZ Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited is registered with the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community & SME Development under registration number 6029.
